Day #2: Casa California Restaurante Mexican Bowl

It's Day #2 of the challenge, and I felt like having something a little on the healthier side, but still hearty enough that I wouldn't be hungry afterwards. I went over some options in my head, so I walked over to the Fiesta Village to go get a Tostada Salad. When I walked towards the direction of the restaurant I was severely disappointed because the area where I used to get Tostada Salads a couple of years ago was now called "Papas Mexicans" and everything was French fries! Don't get me wrong, I love me some good carne asada fries, but on this particular day it just felt too greasy and heavy for what I was looking for.

I looked over the French fry menu and made a mental note to come back on another day when I was feeling more in a junk food kind of mood, so I headed towards "Casa California Restaurante" because not only was it build-your-own, but there were a variety of options. I took a look at the menu and saw that it is exactly like Chipotle since you can choose either a burrito, a bowl, or a salad. Then you get to decide on a variety of options like what kind of beans you want, the kind of rice, what kind of protein, and even what veggies you want included. I opted for the marinated chicken with cilantro rice, pinto beans, corn, shredded cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, melted queso, and a chunky red corn salsa. I was a little disappointed with the small amount of lettuce they put in my bowl since I really like a loaded mini salad on my Mexican bowls, but I was grateful everything looked so fresh. I saw that they even have an extra option of chips and guacamole on the side, but I was shocked when I saw it would be an extra $8.50! No, thank you...I grabbed my food, and my complimentary Boysenberry Punch and left.

I sat down across from the restaurant in the designated sitting area, and I dug into my bowl. As disappointed as I was with the lettuce portion size I had to admit it was very delicious. To me the star of the show was the marinated chicken and the cilantro rice because it was so flavorful. Everything was incredibly fresh and as embarrassing as it is to admit I basically inhaled the whole thing in one short sitting. One major difference from Chipotle was the portion size. When I go out to get my Mexican bowls it's usually enough food for two meals, but this time it was only one (however, I must admit I still felt a little hungry after eating it).

I definitely think it is worth coming back, but I think next time I come I am going to get a burrito instead. I looked at other tables nearby me and the burritos seemed to be a bit larger. In total the bowl would have cost me $17.00 without the meal plan and another $5.50 for the beverage, so in total I saved $22.50 for my meal that day. I would probably rate it a 7/10.

Final Thoughts

I took the time to calculate my amusement park meals for all 10 visits, and in total they would have cost me $249 exactly. In total I saved...
